I try not to think in terms of math, but sometimes it happens. Like today when I took my daughter some bricks. There have been some antique bricks stacked behind the garage for decades and and the other day she complained that the 21st century bricks all had holes in them and didn't look right for a garden walk.

Those old bricks came from several sources, but most of them are obviously hand made. About half came from an old dorm that was being torn down at UT, and rumor has it that they were made by slave labor prior to the War Between the States. And they might not be the oldest in the stack.

Anyway, I offered them to my daughter who lives over near the mountains and she was very pleased. So I loaded 110 of them into my truck and I noticed that it squatted a little. So I took one brick down to the shop and weighed it. Six pounds three ounces! I rounded to six and figured that I had 660 pounds on the truck. Not too bad when you consider that it's carrying capacity is rated at 1430. Yes, it's a Toyota Tacoma, the smallest one Toyota makes, and I agree that almost 3/4 of a ton is too much for that little truck. I doubt that I have ever had 1000 pounds on it. 660 pounds is about two Cushman scooters and a tool box. One thing for sure; it rides better with a few hundred pounds on board. It improves traction too.

So we headed off to Blount County with a load of bricks. When we got home I walked back behind the garage and the brick stack was only slightly smaller. Two more loads might not do it. I think I'll try about 800 pounds the next time.

She plans to build a serpentine walkway from the driveway, through a flower garden, along the tree line and around to a patio in the back. It should be enough.
