A warm day in December

It was a nice day today. It got up into the 60's and the sun was shinning all day long. I had trouble staying inside for more than a few minutes at a time, so I stayed busy outside.

1.I cleaned the round window above the sunroom door. Then while I had the Windex in my hand, I cleaned the windshield on the truck. Then I got out those new spark plugs that I have had for a week or two and tried to install them in the truck's engine. Tried. The front two went in OK, but the back two were another matter. The fuel injection is in the way and I would have to take a lot of unidentified parts off the engine to reach them. I'm not that much of a mechanic so I will be driving around with two new plugs and two old ones. I wonder if it will run like that.

2. Where are all of the leaves coming from? I cleaned up the yard days ago and the leaves are back. So I raked some out from under the bushes and then used the riding mower to pick them up. It looks good now, but tomorrow is going to be stormy and the leaves will be back. I don't know where they come from. The trees are bare.

3.I got the '63 Cushman Eagle out. The battery was dead, but it has a kick starter. I rode up and down the street for a while, and then stopped to talk to Roy and Gary, two recently-retired neighbors.

4.After I put the scooter up, I got the tiller out and cleaned all the grass and weeds off the tines. It was dusty/greasy, so I squirted it with gunk and after it soaked in I squirted it off with the hose and wiped it down with an old towel. It looked good for an old machine, but would it run? Second crank it fired right up. I'll change the oil before spring.

5. Saw some more leaves out by the mailbox. So I get the mower and head out there. Hit a tree. Knocked the bagger off and had to fix that. Later I went over by the garden and tried to burn out that little stump that I keep tripping over. I got it on fire for a while, but it doesn't look any smaller. It's black now.

6.WMM came home from the Wal-Mart and brought me a new rake. I'll need it in a day or two. I wish she would stop making fudge and all those good things to eat. OK, that's a lie, but I don't really need it. I could live on fat for a few days.

7.I walked around and got a lot of fresh air today, but not much of that exercise that gets your gizzard thumping. So I went downstairs and got on the exercycle. Five miles in 18 minutes. That should burn off a little fat and open up those old arteries. When I got upstairs, it was dark! But it was a good day.
