The best way I've found is, at every point where you stop, draw a point and label it with a landmark. Then draw short lines out in all directions. Then go each of those directions and draw the line just as the description tells you. If you reach a dead end, just don't draw any other paths. Keep doing this until there are no more unfollowed paths, and you have your map.

Graph paper is somewhat convenient for this. Draw the lines long, to leave room for any others that might be in the area.
