Don't read this.

And I've done both of those things. The clot-sliding-down-the-back-of-the-throat thing tends to happen when you drain a nosebleed down the throat and end up swallowing a lot of blood before it stops. There is absolutely nothing like feeling it loosen and slide down from the rear nasal cavities to the back of the throat -- besides the fact that this is a rather disgusting thing moving around in there, it's a place where one is not used to feeling anything *at all*.

There is a *shocking* amount of room in there for blood to congeal. I've coughed up a heck of a lot of blood globs that range upward to the size of large strawberries. What's cool, though, is how *clear* things feel after it's out.

The worst thing is when blood clots have formed in both the front and rear passages, blocking both off, but the bleeding restarts and is unhampered by the clots. Then you just feel this uncomfortable sort of pressure building up in the nose, and inevitably blood leaks. In such cases, I often resign myself to having to start from scratch and just yank out the clots, blowing my nose if necessary, and clear the whole thing out. Too many blood clots forming without having stopped the bleed just makes things worse, it seems -- besides simply for reasons of comfort -- although I don't know why.
