Ok, so, uh, never mind and stuff.

Scorsese and Weinstein were apparently working together, and the theatrical release *is* the "director's cut." The press apparently translated the struggles that were had in the editing room as another studio vs. director thing.

The phenomenon I was speaking of still happens, but apparently Weinstein *isn't* so stupid as to hire a Scorsese and then throw his own hands into the mix. It sounds, rather, like Scorsese and Weinstein were working as a book author and editor typically do.
