> It amazed me how the exact same scene could be made to come across so many different ways just with different music. In one, you just knew the guy was going to murder her or something. In another one, you just knew they were going to fall in love. I seem to remember there was one which made me think "OK, they're spies working together or something, they're only pretending not to know each other." You could practically write the whole rest of any potential movie just from this one scene in which two people do virtually nothing -- all created within your own mind, because of the soundtrack.

This reminds me of a rather amusing anime music video I saw a while back. In anime fandom, there is a pretty large group of fans who enjoy editing clips from their favorite shows/movies into short videos, set to music. There are competitions for anime music videos at cons, and whatnot. End explanation. Anyway, it was made to prove a point to the annoying lamer type (they're everywhere!) - that picking a song you like and an anime you like and slapping them together with no regard for the content of the music as compared to the video Does Not Work.

The footage this guy used to make his point was from the movie My Neighbor Totoro. If any of you have seen it (and it is available here, dubbed), you know that it is a charming, extremely comfortable and pleasant movie to watch. It's one of those soothing, feel-good movies.

The music selected was heavy metal.

The combo of this made for one very amusing music video, because even with the context of knowing from the movie EXACTLY what the characters portrayed were like, with the heavy metal music they suddenly seemed like the most obnoxious bratty children imaginable. The feel of the footage was completely reversed from what it SHOULD have been.

Music has far more control over what's being shown on screen than most people think.

Sosi"should watch more movies"qui
