A big thank you for taking part in my little informal "Where" pole. As I am sure you have guessed, I was just looking for ideas. Travel magazines are OK up to a point, but sometimes they are just plugging their advertisers when they recommend places.

I found it interesting that a lot of people couldn't narrow it down to just one city. I can certainly identify with that problem. My list would probably include Fairbanks, Paris, Naples, Lima, and any city on the coast of Northern California, or any city in Canada. But to pick number one would be difficult.

Several people mentioned states and countries as well as cities. Maybe I shouldn't have limited it to just cities, since some of the most interesting places are not even towns.

Another interesting thing is that many respondants wanted to go back to places they had visited before.

As for my favorite cities, (not including towns etc.,) I like Honolulu. Los Angeles has absolutely everything. And Nashville is a great place for a vacation. I have a love/hate thing about Boston. I hate the traffic, but otherwise the place is a blast. I have never understood why some people think Boston is stuffy and stuck up and too formal. I never observed those qualities. Go right downtown. That is something I don't recommend in most cities. You like sleezy? New Orleans does sleezy with real class.
I really haven't seen enough of Vancouver, B.C., either.
Howard
