Moving to Florida. That gives me a nostalgic fit. I go back to October of 1948. It was a cool morning in Nashville when we got on the Greyhound and headed south. We had been staying with my aunt, while my father looked for housing.

At every stop it was warmer than the last one. We saw red clay and pine trees turn to gray sandy soil and live oaks with Spanish moss, then white sand and palm trees. In those days, the bus station in Ft. Pierce was on Avenue A, half a block from US 1. When I got off the bus everything look pinkish. That was because I had been looking through a greenish tinted window all the way down. We just walked across the street to a rooming house where my father had found temporary quarters for us.

Over the next few days, we saw the yacht basin, the South Bridge and the beach on Hutichinsons Island. We tried fishing, and walked all over town. I discovered the Community Center down by the Indian River and the Sunrise Theater. Compared to Hazard, Kentucky, it was paradise.

I hope you have a similar experience. Moving can be stressful, but sometimes it's well worth it.
