My father, having reached the advanced age of 66, and having decided that he should start thinking about his own mortality (I guess...) asked me out of the blue one day which guns of his I would like to have when he passes on. I thought about it for a few seconds, and told him I wanted the .22 magnum that had been his father's (because that's the first gun I really learned to shoot well) and his own .303 rifle, just because it was his deer rifle. So I'm confident that at some sad day in the future I will come into posession of those two firearms, and I fully intend to keep them in my house, although whether I ever actually buy an ammo for them is another question. I figure if nothing else, they'd make good clubs if someone ever broke in.

I've never even *seen* a real gun up close, but I'd love to have a go at shooting one some day. Mostly because my paternal grandfather, whom I never knew (he died a *long* time before I was born) was a champion rifle shooter. He's always had an element of mystery to me, as I have only ever seen three things which connect to him -- the now-antique set of woodwork tools he brought with him when he first emigrated here from Scotland as a ship's carpenter, one photo, and an engraved silver plate he won in some kind of sharpshooting competition. So, illogical as it may be, I would very much like to learn to shoot a rifle some day, because it would make me feel as if I somehow had connected a little bit more to him.
