We had some rough weather in Tennessee last night. It missed us, but not by much. About 8:30 p.m., I went outside and looked to the east where a violent area of thunderstorms was lighting up the sky. Then I turned around and looked west, where thunderstorms and tornados were taking aim at a little town called Mossy Grove. The sky in that direction was rather bright as well. In both cases, the storms were so far away, I couldn't hear thunder, but the lightning was brilliant. However, where I was, there was a bright, first-quarter moon. Some of the storms passed within a couple of miles of our house about 30 minutes earlier, but we were in the den down in the basement at that time.

I would not have enjoyed the show if I had known what was about to happen in Mossy Grove. They say the town is practically gone. Several people died. A wind gust of 91 miles per hour was recorded in nearby Sweetwater, but I think that was a microburst instead of a tornado. We got a couple of inches of rain, and a few sticks blew out of the trees in yard. We were lucky.
