You have the tree branches, but you'll need something to combine them with. You've passed it before (remember "Muddy bagpipes?") but you can't get it free yet.

You're gonna have to buy a bucket, but to get what you need to do that, you'll have to pander to the mermaid's vanity. (You didn't ask the old man for everything. Go back to the castle and threaten him for goods again.) Also, remember those useless boxes in the garage? They may not be all THAT useless...

Once you buy a bucket and get some sap, go take it to man's best friend. The solution should become clearer from there.
