I often wonder if I'm just basically immune to such wonders as "natural beauty" or if there's something about the place where you grew up that makes it impossible for you to truly appreciate it.

Everytime you have something great to say about NH, I think to myself "I lived there 25 years, and all I remember are trees and hicks. Mostly hicks."

I certainly saw all the things you speak of. I've seen plenty of autumns in NH. I've seen plenty of snow-covered mountains. I lived 18 years literally in the shadow of Mt Washington and never really thought anything about it. It was a mountain, it was there.

One of the things I really liked about Colorado before moving here was the wide open spaces. I liked the lack of trees. Now when I go back to NH, I get claustrophobic while driving up I-93, because the trees crowd in on both sides.

Part of it is the fact that I get used to things easily. I find things like trees and mountains and other scenery beautiful for about ten minutes, then I'm used to it. It's just there. Let's go look at something else now. Or maybe go bowling.

I dunno. Anybody else feel this way, especially about the place they grew up in?
