> Cars with 200,000 miles on them are not uncommon anymore. I remember our family car 50 years ago. It was a '41 Lincoln that had been rebuilt at 40,000 miles. At 60,000 the engine was completely shot. Our 54 Ford, which was bought new, was completely worn out from end to end at 65,000 miles. My 65 Volkswagen van blew up at 56,000 and again at 72,000. Then we started buying Subarus and Toyotas and 200,000 trouble- free miles became the norm.

Well, my old 89 Toyota Tercel just keeps going and going and going! It now has over 100K miles on it. Last Sunday coming back from Helma's it blew a rear tire. So I look in the trunk and get out the idiot wheel to put on. Then I find the jack which I had never used before. Lo, and behold, the jack is locked down into the trunk and I had no instructions on how to get the thing unlocked to use it. I wound up having to call a wrecker from Knoxville and they where there in 30 minutes. Then when I went to the store to buy a couple new tires, I was told that my rear brakes should be relined as well. Then I was told that the front end was out of alignment. So I invested a couple hundred dollars in this old car which I hope will last me another year or two. For many years I kept a floor jack in the trunk but never had to use it. Can someone please tell me how to unlock the jack on that old Toyota?
