FQ2: Roc Feather (spoilers)

I haven't been able to find this bloody roc feather. I've gotten past the drake and beefhead, found the sorcerer, and tried to use the float ring at the top of the volcano. Is there something i'm missing with the float ring? Here's my inventory:

20 Onions
Sack
Small Silver Coin
Silver Key

Crown of Destiny
Float Ring
Sap Tap
Bucket of Sap

Cross
Fishing Net
Coconut
Blue Rubber Ball

Pliers
Iron Support
Sword
Sunstone
