Help on FQ2

I've gotten completely stuck on Fantasy Quest 2.
My objects are:
18 Onions
Small Silver Coin
Float Ring
Fishing Net
Pliers
2 Tree Branches
Silver Key
Sap Tap
Coconut
Iron Support
Sack
Nail
Bucket of Sea Water
Blue Rubber Ball

I've 1) turned the dog to a human, 2) healed the Indian, 3) given the mermaid her mirror and comb, and 4) gotten rid of the cat.
What I can't figure out how to do is 1) get past the cyclops, 2) give the tower something it won't spit out, and 3) get past any of those gates.

I'm sure I'm missing something totally obvious, but I'd really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Thanks!
