The police-taunting is the one thing that makes me confident this person *will* be caught. It goes without saying that the person is hugely disturbed, but that didn't rule out that they might also be extremely efficient and clever. However, leaving a police-taunting note at the scene of the crime reduces this person to yet another stupid criminal whose longing for notoriety will be their undoing.
