At my local Tesco's (A British supermarket chain), they used to have spaces reserved for, and I quote, "mothers and Children" only. So when my mother and I went shopping there I parked in them. No matter that I was over 30 and driving, the sign said, "Mothers and children". By all strict definition of the words, that is the familial relationship between us.
One time, someone looked at me and mentioned the sign, looking disapprovingly at me. I just said, "Hey, that's my mother and I'm her child." I don't think it went down too well. The signs changed to, "Mother and toddlers" pretty soon after anyway.
