It kind of bugs me since I think that squaring off the ear takes away from a cat's face. Do other people have different ear notchings on their cats?

I have one male cat, about, oh 4-5 months old, who is neutered(sp?). They never notched his ear... I don't know if they only it do it in some states or what...
