Thunderstorms are a rather common stressor in dogs. Loud noise comes out of nowhere followed by several loud noises. The best way to cure your dog's fear of this is by giving the dog treats whenever a thunderstorm approaches. That way, the dog will start associating the noise with something good. Of course, you can't just wait around until the next thunderstorm to start shoving treats in Fido's face. Get a CD that is a recording of a thunderstorm. Play it very quietly while calming your dog with treats. Over time -- that is, over the span of several days -- gradually turn up the volume on the stereo. Always treat the dog, always accentuate the positive behavior. Try to do thunderstorm training at about the same time every day.
