It's similar when he was on Match Game (which I confess I used to watch reruns of. This was before I discovered such quality entertainment as 'Plan Nine From Outer Space' and old X-Men cartoons). It seemed to be an unwritten rule of the show that if you were a female contestant, you had to choose Richard Dawson to match your little Mad Libs-esque word with, and if they did match (which it almost always would) you were required to race over to Richard Dawson and hug and kiss him. If you didn't do all this he would be obviously offended and would make sure his words didn't match yours from now on and you would LOSE.

At least that's the impression I got.
