Unwittingly following trends (or, "I have a job, too!")

It's true. All I did was go to class today and suddenly I'm employed by the university.

My Public Speaking professor announced today that our class needs a note-taker for a hearing-impaired student so that he can pay attention to his sign language interpreter during the lecture and still have notes to look over afterward. I'd do it for free, but it turns out they actually *pay* you. Wow.

I thought it sounded cool, took a piece of paper about the job, read it over, and walked over to the Disability Resource Center, where they hired me. I also signed up to do the same thing in two other classes. (Introduction to Special Education and Healthy Lifestyles, if you're curious.)

In summary: I get to be helpful; I get to learn from lectures without having to do the homework, and all I have to do in return is write things down. Not only that, but they also pay more per hour than did my last job. This is great.
