Me? I think I'm the only Tess around these
parts. Really, Gillian Anderson?? That's one
that I've never gotten. I used to get Alanis
Morisette back when I wore my hair long and
wavy. Sometimes I would get princess Leia if I
did my hair in silly side buns. I don't see that
one, though.

Mostly these days I get told I look like a
brunette Marilyn Monroe. I think they are just
remembering when I dressed up as her a few
months ago. I don't know. Maybe it's because
I enjoy dressing myself in fun and glamorous
ways, despite the fact that I am not a size itty
bitty. It's interesting how beauty standards
have changed over the years. I don't feel so
bad, though. It's fun to have a figure from a
by-gone era. My Grandmother, was very very
thin when she was in high school (anorexia)
and once she had children she plumped up
and got some curves. She has said to me, "I
was Twiggy when it was the style to be Sophia
Loren, and Sophia Loren when it was
fashionable to be Twiggy." That always struck
me as very funny for some reason. My mother
(who was also a Sophia Loren) used to tell my
brothers and sisters that she went "shopping"
for my father. He was tall and very lean, as
with most of his family. Despite all that
planning, the Sophia Loren genes still slipped
through. I don't feel slighted, all my girl
cousins on my dads side are all very skinny
and very tall. They wish they had a figure, and
I have the sense enough to appreciate the one
I have.

Has there ever been a thread about beauty
standards, etc on this forum?

Anyway, This Halloween I am going as Snow
White. Maybe everyone will think I look like her
from now on. We'll see if I am truly a master of
disguise.

Tess

You know, now that I am thinking...the picture
in the rink album (the one I am sure you are
refering to) was taken at a high school dance.
I remember my history teacher who
was chaperoning saying, "Why hello Miss
Marilyn." That just makes me laugh.
