Well, at many 50s-style diner restaurants, they can add flavoring to the soda, and there you go.

I've never HAD a chocolate soda, although I've long been curious... but whenever I end up at the right type of restaurant, I always decided to have the tried-and-true Extra Huge Milkshakes (another reason, besides the huge fries, why I love those kinds of restaurants) instead of risking my special drink on a soda I might not like.
