Sledgehammer, Spiffy Cola, and shield

im kinda stuck here. i have all the shards and stones i need for the shield but i cant make it yet for some reason. i saved the miner in the sandstone caverns and i think i need to find him again for the sledgehammer(he alread gave me somthing else) but i cant find him anywhere. i also helped the miner with the broken wheel but he didnt help me at all. I need the Spiffy cola for that kid but i cant find that (i think it has to do with that piller in the cavern which i need the sledgehammer for but im not sure). i already have vernas card and have gotten the key from her room but now i am locked out. Johnson is waiting for me but i cant do the distraction without the shield. the kitchen vent has been fixed. i have been stuck here for a long time and i CANT DO ANYTHING!!! PLEASE help me out. thank you in advance.
