Canada is (or was, in 1996 - I doubt it's changed too much since then) 49th for per-captita alcohol consumption. I can't get a ranked list for beer consumption alone, but Canadians drink beer containing 4.23 litres of ethanol per capita per annum. This is significantly below the UK, America, Colombia, South Africa, Belgium, Finland, Slovenia, the Netherlands and Germany, to name a few.
