Oh, my, I've read your last three questions and you are SO close to figuring it out...

You can't get into the northern fortress thru the front door, so forget about that plan. There's another way in nearby, and you JUST ASKED what to do in that place.

And the point of a float ring is to allow you to float DOWN someplace gently... anyplace you could go down into that you couldn't before?
