CD-ROM Driver Question

I'm trying to get my old PC set up to play my old DOS games on. I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled DOS 6.2 from my old backup diskettes. I couldn't find the disk(s) that had the drivers for the mouse and CDROM drive, so I went downloaded some from the internet.

The mouse driver worked beautifully, but the CDROM drivers (I tried two) did not.

This is the line I added to my config.sys file:

MSCDEX.EXE /D:banana /L:D

And this is the line added to my autoexec.bat file:

DEVICE=cd1.SYS /D:banana

The file cd1.SYS is in my root directory, and when I boot up the machine, it's obviously finding it and trying to use it. I get the following series of messages after it attempts to load the driver:

"No drives found, aborting installation."

And then later,

"Device driver not found: 'banana'"
"No valid CDROM device drivers selected."

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?
