So what you're saying is this: Anyone, even a person who is opposed to violence, or the support of violence in any form, is a coward, even though they would gladly stand against the threat of death for the cause of their religion or some other belief they hold sacred? I personally wouldn't serve in any branch of the military, even in a non-violent role. My reasoning is that the role of the military is to do violence, whether in the form of defense of our country or in the form of aggression toward another country. I am opposed to the taking of any human life whatsoever. Even those non-violent roles in military service are in support of those roles that are violent and, with respect to the big picture, are merely slightly-removed-from-violent roles. However, I would gladly stand at gunpoint, under threat of death, and continue to preach Jesus. I certainly wouldn't go looking for that situation, but if it arose I would rise to the occasion.
