Heh. I see wintermute already slapped you down on this one, but let me jump in and get my own slaps in.

True, technically, the US did not lose the war of 1812. But, we lost every major land engagement except for the successful defense of Baltimore and the Battle of New Orleans. We won several naval battles, but then again most of the British fleet was occupied elsewhere. We failed in our invasion of British Canada. The war was a stalemate, a draw if you will. Basically, the Brits had more important things to do than fight us, so they signed a peace treaty with us so they could reassign the troops in the US to the war in Europe. You can thank France for this, although it pains me to say so.

And what's this about the Brits acknowledging the superiority of the US? I don't think the Brits have *ever* done that. I think most of them still think they could take us back into the Empire if only they could find the time.

And, conversely, we *won* every major engagement in Vietnam and *still* lost the damn war. Go figure.
I blame France for getting us into the stupid war in the first place. There, that's better.
