That's most likely the answer. I took the SATs twice, the first time scoring something like 1100 and the second time 1220. A lot of people take the SATs multiple times, and I can definitely say that, at least on the older style tests I took, people invariable scored much higher their second go-round than their first.

But I knew a lot of people in high school who took the SAT only once, scored 800 to 900 combined, and figured that was plenty good enough. *shrug*
