The most interesting thing I ever found in a book was a dead spider. Apparently it must have crawled across the page while a previous reader was reading it, and he or she did the most natural thing-- slammed the book shut on the poor arachnid. Everything was there, perfectly preserved... the eight little legs... or maybe it was only seven... the ichor, squished and streaked across the page...

I was in high school at the time, and I thought, "COOL!" I didn't clean it up, but returned the book the way I found it, and relished the thought of the expression on the face of the next reader to make it to that page.

The book was "A Man for All Seasons."
