FQ- HELLP guardian in south fortress, spoilers ok

Help! I can't get past this big guy, my options are:
You are in a very large entry hall. The decoration is limited to a chandelier and a few tapestries. The air is cold and damp and seeps through your skin to the core of your bones. There are doors on the north and south walls. There is a dumb-looking guardian here. He's a big, hulking brute.

Look at the map.
Go north.
Go south.
Go west, out of the castle.
Kill the guardian with your hands.
Kill the guardian with your sword.
Give the guardian the fishing pole.
Give the guardian a carrot.
Talk to the guardian.
Rush past the guardian.

My inventory is:

Hammer
Nails
Bow
Arrow
Fishing Pole

Pass Ring
Sunstone
