Dude, getting the crate was SO hard for me! The "Frequently Requested Hint" on the main hint page was a little helpful, but I firmly believe anyone who got it without MAJOR hints did so by total accident, and not by intelligence.
It turns out to be one of those deals where, aside from making all the right choices to begin with, you have to decide for no good reason to leave and come right back. No fair!
Uhh, I mean, "brilliantly conceived and executed, Mr. Stoddard, sir!" :)
