I don't mean to spoil everybody's fun, but it'd be far more sporting just to say "he's somewhere on level 4, make sure to explore it all". When I first played, part of the fun was looking everywhere and not knowing what I might find. I was actually most intrigued the first time I got to the area just before the Gatekeeper, and I had no idea why the guy at the end was special till I finally killed him several tries later.
