Ah, Howard, you are really making me miss the islands... we used to go there almost every summer. Usually to Waikiki, but in the last two years we went we branched out to Maui and Kauai. I liked Maui the best; less touristy than Waikiki Beach yet not AS quiet as Kauai.

I remember the Waikiki days well... taking the WikiWiki tram-buses around the airport... Honolulu airport is wonderful. You step off of the plane and are bathed in the delicious scent of flowers. Island plumeria is one of my favorite scents.

Playing on the beach was always wonderful, delightful warm water - although now that I've experienced both, I prefer the sands of the Carribean to those of Hawaii, but the ambience of Hawaii is better. I have fond memories of walking to the Royal Hawaiian hotel (the small pink one) for blueberry pancakes for breakfast, and having heaping-tall blue vanilla shave ice for a snack. Nobody does shave ice like the Hawaiians. And on the beach by the tall Sheraton hotel, there is a great big old banyan tree with lots of branches, perfect for climbing and even better for sitting on while the sun sets.

Ahh, memories...
