Don't worry about the shield just yet. . . . Think: how did you get access to the mines? You do the same sort of thing here, the only difference being that you take advantage of someone else. Forgery is the best policy.

As for the wrench, talk to the pharmacist. That should be enough for a start. I need to play the game again in order to remember what you do with the wrench when you get it.
