As painful as it is, I was just sitting here thinking. Computers are still confusing and somewhat unreliable. They will lock up, blank out, go gibberish, slow down, flipflop and sometimes even make fun of you. ("Bzzzzzt-you goofed!")

Well friends, a lot of other things used to be like that and they got better. I used to fiddle with the control knobs on my television all week long and then haul it to the repair shop on Saturday. So now. . . . I've had my present TV for ten years and it has never been to the shop. It doesn't even have, or need, fiddle knobs.

Cars used to be hard to start, hard to keep running, and prone to conk out completely. They came from the factory with bad brakes, sloppy suspensions, and clunky engines. Regular visits to the shop for repairs and maintainence were part of a car owner's life. So now. . . .
I put gas in my car about every 550 miles, and check the oil about once a month. Two or three times a year it gets new oil and a filter. That's about it.

Maybe, when computers have been around as long as television sets and cars, they will get better.
