Wands are remarkably rare in Shops, and Shops in more expensive towns only have slightly better inventory. However, according to Sam, every item in the store has a 1/500 chance of ranging over the entire array of items in existence, excluding keys, key-equivalents and the King's Diadem. There's roughly a 50% chance you'll encounter one such item in 25 visits to the Shop, and it might not be anything all that special. However, you should visit the Shop every time you're in town, as every once in a while it'll offer an Item of Extra-Specialness at the low, low price of just under a million gold.
