Level 6 in Murk(SPOILERS)

OK, so I fell down the chute in L. 5 & landed in 6 twice. 1st time--I beat the monsters & then went out, where a sign told me I need a tunnel rock(whatever that is)to get back in. I went back up 2 L. 5, went down again, beat the 2nd round of monsters, & decided 2 explore the other square in that little room. Nothing there! Is that what I need a tunnel rock for, to beat monsters? If that's true, then it can stay just where it is. Or maybe I need 2 beat 5 1st(just started). Any hints?
