Fantasy Quest and that darn vampire!!!

ok, ok, call me stupid,

I have read all the messages regarding the vampire and I still can not kill him. I have resisited him over and over, I have left and returned over and over. What else can I do?

Also, I can't get into the gardens. How do you get there? I have found both the volcano and the tower, but can't do anything with either Where else can I go now? I just gave the fish to the gnome. I am so stuck! Thanks for the no-so-subtle-hints.
