Druids learn all the spells faster than getting a character to be a high enough level wizard, then retraining him as a sorcerer. Plus, the higher level druid will come out with more SP, and the few extra AC points don't hurt, especially if you plan to retrain the character again and stick him on the front lines.

I guess, but I'd rather have HP than AC unless it's realistic to get up to 65 AC, which it never is. You can't really get above 40 AC without magic, unless you feel like training a level 157 Assassin. Also, you only have to get Sorcerers and Wizards up to level 17 to learn all the spells, whereas Druids have to get up to level 23.

Once you have your level 17 Wizard who knows all of both spells, which doesn't take much longer than getting a guy up to level 23, you have a guy who can actually use some of the stuff they sell in the Shop. That's more AC than any sensible Druid will ever accumulate, though in my third game I got a Druid up to 30 AC or so.
