Even mapping it out, you'd at least need a Scroll of Location to know where you are. After running from a monster, it's quite possible to be in one of several places that look exactly the same, e.g. doorways. I shudder to think what the teleporters on level 10 would do to you without Items of Specialness of any kind. May as well have the light instead.

Actually, come to think of it, I could trace a path from any city to Murkon with no Items of Specialness at all, assuming I didn't have to make a detour for pools or run away from enemies. I've been playing too long.

Yes, 10 resistances are the natural max for all races. It makes sense that it would be consistent, because race doesn't matter except for starting numbers. Once you level up a bit, all races start to look the same.

Incidentally, From Perinn With Love was a Dwarf, the first non-human to beat the game alone, because Dwarves start with 7 Poison Resistance rather than the Humans' 5.

Perhaps someday a girl will beat the game alone. I'm not sure why, but everyone beats the game with male humans. Perhaps they feel like they're personally inside the maze that way.
