I believe the question should have said "unique pictures", as most of the monsters share their pictures with others. My guess would be that it would be WAY too hard to draw several hundred different pictures, most would look very similar anyway, and server space would be obscene. I would guess that the pictures already take more disk space than the rest of the game put together.
