Learning sorcerer spell #25 is about when the level 5->7 run becomes doable, because you can bail out if things get tough. The best things you can probably do for your party right now is to pump agility and make judicious use of silencing spells.
You might also try running from the level 7 monsters, as that might let you explore without having to hack through them all.
