Yeah, a couple of Items of Speed will allow a Knight or Assassin with a half-decent sword and full stats to take out nine of anything at all (except Murkon) in one shot. It really is something to behold.

By the time you get to the lower cities, you shouldn't need to buy anything from the shops at all, unless for example you retrain a spellcaster as a non-spellcaster and don't have any high-end equipment. You'll find enough Items of Specialness just fighting your way from the stairs to Teralt that you should only have to buy something from their Shop if you sold it there by mistake.
