I think it may happen once or twice, but I'm not sure. You do get a valuable non-key item in this manner, though.

I don't recall having found one in the treasure chests.

If you're in the place with the pools, you're in completely the wrong place to get to Kaliti, by the way. Think of other ways to get to the appropriate level.
