Go in the general direction that the cat went and search EVERYWHERE(you can probably find the rooms the cat hides in if you search the forums for "cat"). As for the boy, I think what he wants is obtained by doing the conduit puzzle(never got past that, though; i gave up, so i don't know if he's still satisfied)
