I find three Assassins (for physical attacks) and three spellcasters (for mass attacks) to be an almost ideal combination. Personally, I like to have one Wizard-turned-Assassin, just so I can have magic points in reserve for healing spells between battles and for DISARM. There's a phase where you need a lot of your spellcasters' magic points for battle spells.
If you're down on the ninth level, you can level up a new character at will, so there's no harm in having six spellcasters, three of which are Assassins.
