(Atleast, not from where you're entering it.) If one of your characters can cast "home" or you have a homing stone, 2 or 3 fights is all you have to do. > > > > I have now levelled up my party enough that level 5 isn't posing much problems, but level 7 remains absolutely horrendous. I don't think I've ever come back from there alive. When I step 2 squares away from the stairs, every single step I take brings on at least 3 groups of monsters. > > > > Sometimes I even run out of money to resurrect my whole party. When that happens, I go back to Perinn, since resurrecting is cheaper there and the remains of my party can handle every monster on levels 1 through 4 easily. > > > Hmm.. Try to always cast float. Getting a free round helps *a lot*. Otherwise, I can't really help you. I did it when my party was level 12-13.. I don't know. Try levelling everybody up to 12, or maybe 13. Also, don't be afraid to use spell points. Use those razors spells a lot!
If you're not confident you can kill all the monsters on level 7, don't venture so far from the stairs. The monsters will come to you, and you should be no more than one step from the stairs at all times, in case you need to make a quick getaway. This will save you a lot of expensive HOME spells, if you don't mind fighting your way through some level-5 monsters to get back. You'll level up in a hurry once you realize who does best at killing what kind of monster.
Oh, and at your first opportunity get yourself a couple of assassins. Don't underestimate the value of striking a paralyzing or killing blow in one attack.
