Is it just me... (something about Murkon)

Is it just me, or did the fourth level get really, really easy recently? Yes, I know that my characters have gained some levels, but I remember going down there about a week ago and all I encountered were groups of Wights and Bats. Those things are very painful. But now, I go down there and all I see are Bears and Cougars, which have diffuculty hitting my knights after a single Conceal spell. I only rarely encounter Wights and Bats now, and almost never in the same group. Did Sam change something in the game, or was I just very unlucky my first time down there?
